Areté was founded in 1976 by five scientists and is headquartered in Northridge, California, with offices in Falls Church, Virginia; Huntsville, Alabama; Niwot, Colorado; Tucson, Arizona; Niceville, Florida; and Healdsburg, California. It develops sensing products and software from the seafloor to space: targeting lasers, lidar systems, a counter-UAS system called Basilisk, force protection and maritime surveillance tools, and space systems. Its Tucson site does low-rate production of electro-optic sensors.
