Elroy Air, founded in 2016 and based in South San Francisco, California, develops the Chaparral, an autonomous cargo aircraft that takes off and lands vertically and cruises on its wing with a hybrid-electric drive. It carries more than 500 pounds in a detachable cargo pod over ranges of up to 450 miles, for middle-mile freight and military resupply where there is no runway.
