Grants and government R&D money

One of the six financing paths for drone and robotics companies

Money that does not take any ownership of your company, from government research and innovation programs.

Research programs such as SBIR and STTR in the U.S., the Air Force's AFWERX, and innovation funds in Europe and Ukraine pay for research, prototypes and testing. Most run in rounds, each with its own topics, rules and deadlines, set out on the program's own page.

Preparing an application? The Grant application kit in the Company Toolkit lists the registrations, the deadlines and the sections for an SBIR or STTR Phase I, a Grants.gov application or a state grant. They come with a company account; the drafts come with the Pro plans.
